Kansas Day

To celebrate the Sunflower State’s birthday, 7th graders in Mrs. DelToro's class took a step back in time and a much-needed break from their HGSS State Assessment Projects. It turns out that some "old school" crafts never go out of style! Students spent their class period creating Bison Tissue Paper Drawings—a nostalgic activity that many of our students hadn't done since early elementary school (and some didn't remember doing at all!).

Beyond the art, we dove into the "why" behind our state mammal, the Bison. Students watched a short but insightful documentary covering:

  • The History of the Bison: From the massive herds of the 1800s to their near extinction and incredible recovery.

  • Ecological Impact: How bison act as "ecosystem engineers," promoting biodiversity in our tallgrass prairies today.

It was a fantastic way to recharge our creative batteries while honoring Kansas's rich natural history. Check out the masterpieces below!
