Zoology

RVHS students in Mrs. Swank’s Zoology class recently completed their unit on fish and had the opportunity to participate in a hands-on dissection of an animal they are unlikely to encounter in person. This unique experience allowed students to closely examine and compare the anatomy of several types of fish.

In the past, students have dissected a perch; however, during this unit, students dissected dogfish sharks. Three of the specimens were pregnant, giving students the rare opportunity to observe the development of baby dogfish. This was a memorable and educational experience for all of the students who participated!

Mrs. Swank shared, “They were very stinky, but the kids did great!”
