Several members of the Royal Valley FFA Chapter attended the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana. The trip began with a visit to South Putnam High School, where members from across the nation gathered to learn about South Putnam’s aquaponics unit, enjoy dinner together, and play games in the gym.
Attending members: Lauryn Caviness, Sophie Lefferd, Makenna Tyler, Jase Johnson, Mary Leigh Myers, Hanna Myers, and Kenadee Henry.
On Wednesday, members explored the National FFA Expo, connecting with colleges, agricultural companies, and FFA supporters. They also attended a social media workshop and the opening session of the convention.
On Thursday, the Royal Valley FFA Chapter was recognized as a 3-Star Chapter—the highest ranking a chapter can earn in the National Chapter Awards Program. Members also participated in sessions and a leadership workshop. In addition, Ms. Clark led a workshop for pre-service agriculture teachers, and members closed out the day by attending the National FFA Teacher Ambassador Reunion.
On Friday, students took part in the National FFA Days of Service, volunteering at the Indianapolis State Fairgrounds. Ms. Clark presented a second workshop for agriculture teachers, and the chapter received national recognition for placing second in the nation in the #SpeakAg Showcase—a video contest designed to inform the public about agriculture. Nearly 40 states entered the competition, with the top three being:
West Platte FFA (MO)
Royal Valley FFA (KS)
Hanford FFA (CA)
On Saturday, members proudly watched Tyson Parks, an RVHS graduate, receive the American FFA Degree, one of the organization’s highest honors. Congratulations, Tyson!
While at the convention, members also learned they had officially placed second in the nation in the #SpeakAg contest. The chapter’s video, produced by Adam Kahle, showcased several Supervised Agricultural Experiences (SAEs) within the program. Addilyn Lefferd, Jase Johnson, and Darren Bausch shared insights about their SAEs and the impact of agricultural education.
