Mrs. Litherland’s Lifespan Development class students experienced pregnancy firsthand with the Empathy Belly simulation.

Participants were challenged to complete everyday tasks while wearing the “baby belly,” giving them a sense of the added weight and physical limitations that expecting mothers face. Students walked up stairs, tied their shoes, and even attempted to lie down comfortably — all while navigating the challenges of the simulation.

Student Ines Laangsterom shared, “It was actually really fun! It gave me a whole new perspective on what expecting mothers go through every day.”

This hands-on activity provided students with a deeper understanding of both the physical and emotional challenges of pregnancy, offering an unforgettable lesson in empathy and human development.
