Mrs. Elkin

The RVHS Chemistry and Physics classes were especially excited this week to finally meet their online instructor, Mrs. Elkin, in person!

Throughout the semester, students have been learning remotely under Mrs. Elkin’s instruction, so her classroom visit was a great opportunity to connect face-to-face and dive into some hands-on science. Both classes gave her a warm Royal Valley welcome by decorating the classroom and creating colorful signs.

During Physics, students conducted an experiment exploring horizontal motion and gravity, calculating how far a bouncy ball would travel in both the x and y directions. They also practiced solving related problems using kinematic equations.

In Chemistry, students completed several experiments. One involved separating mixtures of iron filings, sand, and salt, requiring students to filter and isolate each component. Next, they combined baking soda and vinegar to observe a chemical change. Noticing that the bottom of the mixture became colder, students identified that a chemical reaction was occurring.
