In recognition of Fire Safety Week, all RVES classes took a special trip to the Hoyt Fire Department for a fun and educational experience. During their visit, students learned important fire safety skills, including how to “stop, drop, and roll”, and how to check a door for heat before opening it. Firefighters also taught students what to do if there’s smoke — to stay low, crawl to a window, and wait where firefighters can easily see and reach them.
After learning the basics, students participated in a hands-on firefighter bootcamp, where they had the chance to experience what it’s like to be a firefighter by putting out a pretend fire and exploring some of the gear used in real emergencies.
To finish off the visit, each class enjoyed a snack and received their very own firefighter hat to take home as a reminder of everything they learned.
