STEM Light lesson

In Ms. McKenna’s STEM class, first graders are diving into a new unit on light—exploring how different materials can be transparent, translucent, or opaque.

This week, students are rotating through three engaging hands-on stations. At one station, they’re creating colorful tissue paper flowers, using layers of translucent paper to see how light passes through. At another, students are examining and sorting a variety of everyday objects into categories based on whether light can pass through them completely, partially, or not at all.

Once every first grader has finished their project, their flowers will be displayed in the front windows of RVES, brightening up the school and showing off what they’ve learned this week in STEM!
