On September 3rd, Ms. Deters’ cat, Winnie, mysteriously vanished from the library office. Fortunately, the incident was all part of a staged crime scene for the Forensic Science class, led by Ms. Deters herself.
As part of their unit on Crime Scene Investigation (CSI), students were challenged to put their investigative skills to the test in a mystery. The "crime scene" was set in the library office, where Winnie had last been seen under the watchful eye of Mrs. Wick.
Tasked with solving the case, students approached the scene like real forensic investigators: collecting field notes, analyzing evidence, and interviewing key witnesses, including Mrs. Wick and Ms. Deters. The testimonies pointed to four possible suspects: Mr. Smith, Mr. Boucher, Mrs. Steele, and Mrs. Swank.
With critical thinking, collaboration, and a touch of detective drama, the students began piecing together the evidence to crack the case. While Winnie’s disappearance was fictional, the skills learned in this activity were very real.
