Mrs. Dressman's seventh grade students recently completed a unique art and literature project called the Keyhole Scene Project. For this activity, students were asked to choose a significant or emotional moment from the story we are reading and imagine what it would look like if they were secretly peeking into the scene through a keyhole.
Students thought carefully about setting, characters, and emotions to bring their chosen moment to life. They began by lightly sketching the outline of a keyhole on their paper. Inside the keyhole, they drew the scene as though they were observing it in secret. Some projects included details such as facial expressions, objects in the room, and colors helped capture the importance of the scene.
To go along with their artwork, each student also wrote a short caption explaining what scene they chose, why it mattered, and what was happening in their illustration. This step helped them connect their creativity back to the story while practicing writing clear, thoughtful explanations.
The finished projects showcase a wide range of powerful moments from the book. Some students highlighted tense or emotional interactions between characters, while others focused on vivid settings or symbolic turning points in the story.
The Keyhole Scene Project encouraged students to practice visualization skills, express creativity, and deepen their comprehension of literature in a fun and artistic way. Some of their finished works are displayed here, giving everyone a chance to "peek through the keyhole" into these unforgettable story moments.
