Royal Valley High School participated in the first ever Big East League Art Show May 15th. We came home with one 3rd Place medal for Ball by Optaghee Sanchez and three honorable mentions: Fearful Amphibian and Secrets of the Deep both by Cyrus Harding and Sunflowers for Kansas by Maria Woodhull. In the new bylaws each school was allowed to bring 40 pieces of artwork for judging and each category received 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place and then honorable mentions as the judges saw fit and there was a Best in Show 2-D & 3-D. It took the judges 3 hours to deliberate over all the artwork. Students participated in workshops like creating their own playing cards, Tim Burton inspired sculptures, button making, relief printing on bandanas, and making a quilt block while the judging happened.
