Mrs. Swank's Zoology class is currently studying mammals, and recently had a special hands-on learning experience thanks to one of their classmates, Zane Whitman, whose family breeds rabbits. They brought in a litter of 4 week old Holland Lop baby rabbits to give students a closer look at early animal development and care.
In addition to observing the rabbits, students learned from Zane’s family about what it takes to raise and breed them responsibly. Students also had the opportunity to gently hold the bunnies, making the lesson both engaging and memorable.
“It felt amazing to give everybody an opportunity to experience how rabbits must be well cared for, even into their adult years. It's important to know when to step in and help the rabbits along with educating others on how important rabbits are to us,” said Zane Whitman.
“It was fun to see the students get to hold the bunnies, and of course everyone loves to see baby animals. I am always impressed at how soft their fur truly is, so it was great to have this opportunity for our students,” said Samantha Swank.
“It was a fun experience to hold a bunny for the first time ever. We learn a lot about different animals in zoology, so it was cool to actually use hands-on experience for this one,” said Dominic Conley.
