On Thursday, April 16th, the Ag Department hosted Elementary Ag Day for Preschool through 2nd grade students. High school students led a variety of hands-on activities, including planting in the greenhouse, making butter in the classroom, and exploring animals in the parking lot!
In the classroom, students learned about foods that come from cows through an interactive slideshow, then made and sampled their own butter. Outside, they had the chance to see animals such as cows, horses, bunnies, goats, and chickens up close. In the greenhouse, students planted marigolds and learned about how plants grow.
High school students played a key role in organizing and leading the event, guiding activities, answering questions, and helping younger students engage with each station.
Tylie Beinhoff shared, “It was really fun to see all of the little kids excited about the animals. It was also really rewarding to hear their questions about the animals we brought.”
Overall, Elementary Ag Day was a fun and meaningful experience that gave younger students a hands-on introduction to agriculture while allowing high schoolers to connect with and teach the next generation!
