John Calvert Speaks to RVHS Students During Red Ribbon Week

As part of Red Ribbon Week, John Calvert, Head of School Safety, visited Royal Valley High School on Monday, October 20th, as a guest speaker for JCYC during seminar. All students interested in hearing his message were invited to attend his interactive Q&A session in the library.

Mr. Calvert spoke on several important topics, including making good choices, mental health awareness, the dangers of social media, and the risks of vaping and underage drinking. He emphasized personal responsibility and challenged students to reflect on one powerful question:

“What do YOU want to be known for?”

Throughout his talk, Calvert encouraged students to reach out to a trusted adult if they’re struggling or know someone who is, and to never stay silent when something feels concerning. He shared a sobering statistic — 1 in 13 students will attempt suicide — underscoring the importance of taking care of ourselves and looking out for others.

He closed his message with a motivating reminder:

“Be good leaders and take control.”

A big thank you to Mr. Calvert for taking the time to visit RVHS and speak to our students during Red Ribbon Week!
