In the combined Spanish 3, Spanish 4, and Honors Spanish 4 class, students have been continuing Billy y Las Botas - a tragic (and slightly dramatic!) love story about a scarf and a pair of boots. The class is currently working through Book 2 of the song series. In this installment, the boots have mysteriously disappeared, and Billy, with the help of his loyal friend Gorro, a stocking cap is determined to find his lost love. By the end of the music video, however, the boots are still nowhere to be found.
Using this storyline as inspiration, students participated in a Mad Lib-style group activity, filling in blanks to create their own unique versions of the story. After writing their narratives, each group illustrated their version on a mural. These visual presentations allowed students to retell their stories to the class without simply reading from the text, helping them practice speaking naturally, just as they would when sharing a story with a friend.
Honors Spanish 4 student Maggie Davis shared, “It was fun to work together to make our funny story come to life!”
